17 Dec The G-Force Source: 2017 Year In Review
“Reflect upon your present blessings — of which every man has many — not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
— Charles Dickens
Time flies when you’re having fun—or is it when you’re just so damn busy doing the whole “life” thing that we now realise 2017 is coming to an end soon after remembering when it began like it was yesterday. We’d like to imagine the former: a year’s life full of fun and spectacular moments both in-and-out of the gym with visible and tangible progress in your overall health.
G-Force had another momentous year with ups and downs like anyone or any place but as Charles Dickens states, reflection upon our present blessings is much better than allowing us to be demoralised by past misfortunes.
Our gym has grown exponentially this year and we’re grateful to see so many of you entrusting G-Force with your fitness goals. With growth like we’ve seen at G-Force this year comes changes and we’ve made some in the gym with many more to come in 2018. Continue reading below with a message to you all from Head Coach Glen “Glenny” Laws, followed by this year’s award winners.
What a year! 2017 was personally one of the toughest and most rewarding years of my life. Losing my dad on the 18th of March to a long battle with brain cancer was a tough pill to swallow. There will forever be a hole in my heart but I have gained so much strength and motivation from it. When you lose a loved one, you realise nothing is forever and time waits for nobody. I unfortunately learnt this losing my brother 10 years ago.
Make the most of life and what you do. If you don’t like what you do, change it. Bitching and feeling sorry for yourself won’t change anything, it will just attract more negativity. In times of great stress or adversity, I have found for me it’s best to keep busy and to put my anger and energy into something positive. Having great family and friends kept me strong and having G-Force keeps me motivated. With the biggest low came the biggest high when I found out in July I was going to become a dad. Again, this has given me more motivation in every aspect of my life.
G-Force has had the biggest growth in 2017 and the gym is stronger than ever. We have the strongest team of high-level coaches and our community is one of a kind. We have more couples at G-Force CrossFit then ever before and we have a great variety of people of all different ages. It has been so rewarding watching our athletes smash weight goals, hit numbers they never thought possible and change their life in the best way possible.
I can’t thank everyone enough who has supported myself and G-Force in 2017. You are what makes the gym so amazing and I will forever be grateful.
I am super excited about 2018. We have new sessions coming, new opening hours and weekly specialty workshops. We want to give the members more and give them the opportunity to become the best athlete they can be in the friendliest, least judgmental environment possible.
Have a great end to 2017, set your goals high for 2018 and chase them down until you reach them. Stay safe, have a Merry Chrsitmas and see you in 2018.
Glen.
