17 Apr The G-Force Source: food for thought
There is a common misconception that with an intense training regime, humans can eat whatever and however they want. If that is you, give yourself an uppercut because it could not be more false. It can be argued that diet trumps physical training on a scale of which is more important.
CrossFit is not your run-of-the-mill training regime. It is the Ben Hur of all training regimes. It is epic, intense and it is hard on the body. To help the body recover, a sufficient eating plan is required. Not only will it help you recover, but it will also help maintain your energy levels and keep you rocking throughout the day.
Here is the main man’s–CEO and founder of CrossFit Greg Glassman–description of world class fitness in 100 words:
CrossFit states that generally, your diet should comprise of about 30% protein, 30% fats and 40% carbohydrates. Yes, you read that right: carbs. If someone tells you that carbohydrates are the enemy, give them an uppercut! Carbohydrates are your main energy source and without it, you may as well throw in the towel.
The two main diets that some CrossFit athletes base their diets off are Paleo and Zone. It has been argued that the Paleo diet does not support the body’s energy requirements. The Zone diet, however, is catered to the body’s requirements and the intensity of your training regime. The harder you train, the more you eat. Alternatively, you can adopt the mentality of eating clean and non-processed foods comprising of meats, little fruit, vegetables and plant foods, ensuring that you consume enough carbohydrates, protein and some fats to support your training goals and regime.
