18 Jan The G-Force Source: The Opens are coming
“Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.”
– Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
How true are the words of Sir Tom Stoppard as we transition from one crazy chapter to another. 2015 is behind us, and already we’re fast approaching the next crazy chapter in our lives: the CrossFit Open. What is the Open, you ask? If you CrossFit (and we’ll know that you do because the first rule of CrossFit is telling everyone you CrossFit), the Open is the worldwide competition phenomenon where CrossFitters of all ages, shapes, sizes, genders, racial backgrounds and religious beliefs go up against one another to be crowned the fittest in the world. Vegans will take on the carnivores, the weightlifters will take on the gymnasts, and gym owners will take on their fellow clients (good luck with that).
The world stage in the later parts of the CrossFit annual competition is reserved for the superhuman. But the Open serves a greater purpose than just selecting the fittest males and females from each region to go on to the next stage of the competition; the Open is a pathway to teamwork, supporting friends, meeting new people, healthy competition, and seeing who can yell the loudest as a motivational push for the athlete being counted.
The official website for the CrossFit Games states, “the Open is designed to be accessible to all athletes while rigorous enough to challenge the world’s fittest. Fourteen-year-old high school freshmen compete in the Open, as well as their 77-year-old grandparents and everyone in between.”
We want to see all G-Force CrossFit members register for the CrossFit Open and challenge yourselves to workouts that will be performed by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. There will be scaled options and the “as prescribed” variants. Do not worry about the leaderboard. Instead, worry about coming into the gym, treating the workouts as any other workout in our programming, and cheering on your mates.
Register here at the CrossFit Games website, and be sure to enlist yourself in the team for G-Force CrossFit (not just registering as part of the affiliate).
G-Force Fitness starts next Monday and is free for G-Force CrossFit members. For anyone else wanting to dive into a six week training regime, call the number on the image above and book your spot.
We’ve got some new faces at G-Force. Pictured in our header feature image is comeback kid Méaghan who was with G-Force some years ago and is now making a triumphant return. We also have the super-couple Justin and Jodi who are well versed in the art of CrossFit. If you see these guys in your session, introduce yourselves and make them feel welcome into our blue army.
See you all in the gym.
