The G-Force Source: Lest we forget

The G-Force Source: Lest we forget

The 25th of April marked the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli during World War I. ANZAC Day is a day of significance for all Australians and New Zealanders as we remember the sacrifices made by our ancestors, and those that continue to serve in our armed forces and emergency services today.

For two consecutive years, G-Force CrossFit has paid tribute to fallen soldier Corporal Baird VC MG by conducting the CrossFit hero workout designed in his name. Cameron Baird was a Corporal in the Australian Army and was awarded the honours of the Victoria Cross For Australian and Medal for Gallantry. He died in an operation in Afghanistan on the 22nd of June 2013.

G-Force’s very own Anton—who is a serving member of the Australian Defence Force—presented Corporal Baird’s story to our athletes on the morning of ANZAC Day, and shortly thereafter, the hero workout was conducted. Each forthcoming year, G-Force will continue the tradition and pay this minor tribute to our soldiers. Lest we forget.

ANZAC Day 2

As with every week on The G-Force Source, we have our week’s new personal bests! G-Force Scotsman (I think I got it right this time) Steve had a whopper by adding 5kg to his front squat and a massive 15kg to his back squat! His new personal bests are 140kg front squat and a 160kg back squat. Well done Steve! G-Force newcomers Danyelle and Jono increased their back squats with Danyelle adding 5kg and Jono adding 4kg. Little Lauren, despite having a bad hair day every day during the week (standard), managed a new power clean personal best with an increase from 57.5kg to 60kg. Emma and Luke also increased their back squats, with Emma’s increase being 7.5kg, and Luke 2kg. And lastly, G-Force veteran Lea got her first strict pull-up!

To some people, seeing a 1-2kg increase in their lifts, or one extra rep on an exercise may seem trivial. It is quite the opposite. Any achievement and improvement of any aspect, no matter the number, is cause for celebration. Congratulations to everyone who bettered themselves during the week!

To conclude this week’s G-Force Source, we’re going to make a little note of the current and upcoming weather. Yes, winter is coming (we hope you all understand that reference). We may as well accept that it is here. But, we don’t want to see is any of you succumb to it. Life doesn’t stop, nor does training. Don’t suffer from the winter woes, and be sure to get yourself into G-Force. Each day you miss is one day you’ve lost in bettering yourself. Here’s a quote for you:

“Whether the weather is fine, or whether the weather is not; whether the weather is cold, or whether the weather is hot; we’ll weather the weather, whatever the weather, whether we like it or not!”
